update travis, fix tests for random #119

we switched to gulp.js for our build system, old NodeJS doesn't support it. we were going to remove old version support before we switched to gulp anyway so yeah. also, tests for random have been "fixed" - there is still a chance of them failing but I ran it about 20 times in a row and it didn't fail. hooray statistics!
