Similarities

• Both projects are open-source projects that depend on community contributions.
• Both governance models explicitly explain the roles and responsibilities of each member.
• Both projects are invested in producing quality software products in line with industry standards.
• Both projects have well-structured leadership, in charge of project governance, and direction.
• Both governance models abide by the same code of conduct, the Contributor Covenant Code of Conduct.

Differences

• The HoloViz governance model gives an overview of the guiding policy of its projects, which includes the code of conduct, antitrust and trademark policies, while that of ESLint serves as a descriptive guide on how various contributors contribute to the project.
• HoloViz project is headed by a Project Director and the Technical Steering Committee in ESLint.
• HoloViz has a distributed governance structure, while ESLint has a centralized governance structure.
• HoloViz decision-making is championed by the Maintainers via consensus, voting, appeal, and quorum, while the Technical Steering Committee carries out a consensus-seeking process, and ultimately a voting process in ESLint.
• The four project roles in the Holoviz governance have clearly stated job descriptions, while the ESLint governance, explains both the six project roles and the step-by-step process of joining these roles.
• The decision-making process in HoloViz is championed by the Maintainer and the Technical Steering Committee in ESLint

Which Governance Model is Better? The governance models of HoloViz and ESLint show the special features and traits of each project. The scope, size, and organogram, of these projects, are different, which steered the contrasting approaches to the development of their governance models. Choosing which governance model is preferable might be difficult because each project is unique and has variations in structure and goals. Both projects have a straightforward governance model geared toward the growth of open-source. Overall, I would say that the choice of a governance model has to be in line with the specific requirements, goals, and mission of the project.

@pheberadiant - excellent analysis - I like your comments about around choosing which governance model is better. Each open-source project is unique so finding a governance model with "one size fits all" is impossible as these models need to be flexible to meet the community's needs. Well done.
