Over it's history NumFOCUS has been involved to various degrees with projects more focused on basic science (mostly, but not exclusively, academic), and projects that are more focused on tech sector (e.g. machine learning, data science, etc). This partly reflects the goals of the projects, but it's also a subtle difference in mission. This unconference idea is to discuss whether we think this drift is real, what direction it is, and whether it's good, bad, or just a silly question that is not important.
