Question: design objectives

Currently, the icon theme features a variety of icon styles. Where is this icon theme going - that is, what is its design objective?

Currently, there seem to be several types of icons:

• (relatively) flat application-colored background with grey/white icon etched on top (e.g. libreoffice-impress)
• gradient application-colored background with grey/white icon etched on top (e.g. hexchat)
• (relatively) flat grey/white background with application-colored icon etched on top (e.g. geary)
• gradient grey/white background with application-colored icon etched on top (e.g. vlc)

Is this variety deliberate, or is it working towards the first one in the list? I've been observing the changes, and it appears that Satya's been doing a lot of work towards making icons similar to those under the first category. (It's also my personal preference ;)

Yeah. These issues were also bothering me. Now that you mentioned it, I have already took necessary steps to fix it.

If you wanna see, here are some guidelines I wrote today,

• Icon size: 46x46
• Inner circle size: 40x40
• Pictogram size (for circular shapes): 30
• Pictogram size (for non-circular shapes): 24 (or below, even number, no decimals)
• Circle backgrounds should be a gradient, with a difference of 30 in Luma (HSLA)
• Each shape should have size in even number (no decimals)
• Each shape should properly align to grid (no decimals in x, y coordinates)
• Normal white icons should have the color: #f9f9f9
• Avoid white/grey background for circles

I have started working on it and have completed around 20% icons so far. Lemme know what you think :D

I really like where this is going
