Is this any different from IceWeasel?
Yes, this project was named GNU iceweasel but was renamed to GNU icecat. GNU iceweasel was different from iceweasel ( debian's version of firefox), they're unrelated from each other.
I meany any technical differences? I know Iceweasel is to remove the copyrighted branding, but what does Icecat do?
"It also maintains a large list of free software plugins. In addition, it features a few security features not found in the mainline Firefox browser" this it the only relevant info on changes that I found
It's a Firefox without mozilla branding and with support for proprietary plugins/add-ons removed
They remove proprietary add support?! How?
Anyway, regardless of the technical details of how it works (as a Firefox tester it's just a personal interest) the icon is done :) Should ship in the next commit
Yup, is a firefox rebrand focused on freedom (and, you know, no copyrighted artwork/names). Thank you
they probably just get the add-ons from a different repository that doesn't have the proprietary ones.
Icon missing for GNU Icecat. Icon = icecat Original Icon =
