Transferring Data FAQ missing out important details #1798

Open nus-se-script opened 5 months ago

Note from the teaching team: This bug was reported during the Part II (Evaluating Documents) stage of the PE. You may reject this bug if it is not related to the quality of documentation.

In the data transference instructions, it says that to transfer data all that needs to be done is to replace the empty data file the app creates with the old data. But if I run the jar file in a different location and close the x button, there is no data file created.

Steps to reproduce

Move jar file to another folder and run the app and then close it with the x button.

Team's Response

Hello, thanks for making the effort to raise this issue.

However, we think that you may have misintepreted that instructions. The instructions state

Replace the empty data file the app creates with the old data.

Meaning that the before starting this step, the user is already expected to have done the intermediary step to create the data file to begin with. Since opening and closing the window doesn't create a data file, the step to replace the file is inapplicable at that point of time. Furthermore, the UG also states that a file is only created upon running a command that changes data. It is not inambiguous to the user that they need to run a command first before replacing the created save file IMG_20240422_212653_266.jpg
