When should issues be marked completed / left open? #158

I notice a lot of Issues where the author already bids their thanks for the solution, but then leave it open. However I also understand that some Issues are meant for discussion.

  1. What is the standard we should assume for this forum on when to open and close
  2. How should we deal with repeated questions for already answered questions (which author probably missed because they did not omit the "is:open" when searching
  3. Should tips be left open?
  4. How should we deal with multiple tips addressing the same problem? (I'm looking at you all who gave 101 ways to set coding style in IDEA)

Thanks for raising this, @yadobler Normally, these are decided by the community consensus. So, others are welcome to pitch in with what you think are good ways of handling each.

I think discussions can be left open until they are no longer relevant (for example, not much point in having a discussion about Level-2 work now). For tips I think we can close them after a few days - 1 week.

As for repeated questions, I think we can add a pinned comment/issue at the top (like the AB3 crashes on Mac issue #146 that says something along the lines of "Have a question? Read this first" and then just describes how to search through the issues for a potential answer. Like how on other online forums (reddit, ed etc.) there is a ruleset pinned somewhere on the page that explains to people to first search to see if their question has already been answered before asking it. This could also work for multiple tips (either a separate pinned issue or inside the same issue).
