This is an intended feature that past events are kept in the event list - so that users can have a history of events that happened before. Past records of events do have value for the user. For example, if they observed that a certain person in their contacts did not attend many of their past events, perhaps they may not want to invite that person for future events, or may make a mental note that this person is unlikely to attend their event. This would help users plan their future events, as they put less priority in planning the event in accordance to said person's schedule, since they are unlikely to attend anyway based on past records.
A future enhancement to the app would be to mark events as completed successfully, as well as mentioning in the User Guide that the events are sorted descending by date by default. So we categorised this as not in scope.

It is not immediately clear from the User Guide if the events are sorted by dates, and there is no separation between past and incoming events. Moreover there is no direct command which marks events as finished (there is
cancel
but the intention is clearly different). In effect, there is no way to handle past successful events, except for the workaround of "cancelling" them.
