Value proposition is not specified clearly and is quite brief in the UG #3405

The User Guide introduction makes reference to how the application can help students to keep track of 'everything' they might need in their internship search. However, this is not elaborated on and it is unclear the benefit that this application can exactly bring to the target audience. Although this can be understood more by continuing to read the user guide (hence why this is not a severity.High documentation bug), users just starting out are likely to refer to the introduction section to get an overview of the value that the product might bring - as the value is not stated clearly, many users are likely to not use the product or continue reading through the UG (hence why this is a severity.Medium documentation bug). Relying on their reading through the UG to find the specific value proposition also relies on them reading past the 'contact' features (as the contact features are not specific to keeping track of internship details) to the section on reminder management - for new users, this is not likely to happen.

Team's Response

Hi. Thank you for your response. However, we believe that this bug is not in scope, and that the severity should instead be low.

While a more detailed value proposition might bring some benefits to some users, we do not consider it particularly important, and don't believe it relates to the features that we have pushed while working on NetBook. As such, we believe that it is not in scope.

We also believe that the value proposition is clearly stated in the introduction. As can be seen in the introduction, NetBook is an application that manages contacts and appointments (2nd statement of the 4th paragraph), clearly informing the user what NetBook does. It also utilises a command line interface to increase its users efficiency (the benefits of our product). Finally, it states our target audience (SoC students).

Moreover, the user guide is primarily meant to teach users how to use the product, and teach them how to use the features offered by NetBook, rather than advertising the product to users. A long introduction paragraph greatly describing the benefits NetBook offers would get in the way of that.

Finally, while onboarding users through the user guide might certainly happen, we do not believe it is particularly significant.

For the three reasons above, we believe that the severity should be low, rather than medium.

Thank you!
