Based on our experience with the CELC teachers, we are told that the concept of optional parameters is very confusing for someone with no programming background. E.g. Training wheels are optional too but they are necessary for beginners.

Beginners are told to learn more parameters about the list command, but more experienced users are told it is optional, shouldn't it be the other way around? is it much easier for the beginners if we just list out everything for them and give advanced users the choice to filter based on certain conditions?
