Chapter: Ch8 Engineering for Equity
Summary:
Idea is that bias is inherent within engineers and this is naturally brought over to the products that are built
As a result, the products often advantage certain groups over others (for example, machine learning algorithms not being able to detect faces of darker colors)
Hence, measures need to be taken to combat this bias and promote equity, such as building an equitable workforce, engaging a wide variety of users, and actively measuring equity.
One way I think this chapter relates to my project, Markbind, is that perhaps we should relook at our accessibility components. For example, how easy is it for the visually impaired to utilize a website made from Markbind?
