This thread has been setup for .tsv Portuguese translation uploads to be processed for the Android and iOS Daily Dozen applications.

This is the latest translated version. It's saying it doesn't support .tsv file types for upload, so I'm uploading as a .zip. Let me know if there's anything else I can do. Thank you.

@salitrov The .zip format is OK.

Also, Portuguese_pt.additions.tsv needs to be completed to have a first pass for the applications.

Is this translation more of the Brasil or Portugal dialect?

Thank you for processing, Marc! We will work on the "Additions" documents. They translated it so it should be understood by both dialects. So it can just be "Portuguese" if that works.

File Updates

See Languages/Portuguese/tsv

Translation Intake. The files Portuguese_pt.intake.20210929.tsv and Portuguese_pt.intake.additions.20211015.tsv are the intake files provided by you above. Only a minor edit was needed these files to parse correctly. (Matter of an escaped quotation parsing pattern.) The intake TSV files currently post the Languages/Portuguese/tsv driectory parse OK.
Updated Reference. The Portuguese_pt.tsv is the processed result of parsing, sorting, merging mapping in current application ids, and doing a consistency check. So, Portuguese_pt.tsv is the current TSV Portuguese translation reference for the mobile applications.
App Store. The Portuguese_pt.appstore.tsv file is for the Apple and Android store product description pages. All *.appstore.tsv files remain serparate from the application files for processing purposes.

Questions

A. English Spelling. The following row ids were reported to have the English spellings in the translation. Just to confirm, are the words listed below expected to retain the English spelling in Portuguese?

As FYI, the iOS software handles Brasilian Portuguese (pt-BR) and Portugal Portuguese (pt-PT) separately. Below is part of the Xcode software development environment pulldown menu for common user language choices:

As such, the provided (BR) and (PT) translations were split and updated into the existing Languages/Portuguese_Brazil and Languages/Portuguese_Portugal directories.

And, the non-region specific Languages/Portuguese (pt) uses (pt-PT).

Either _PortugueseBrazil and/or _PortuguesePortugal can be further regionalized by updating the corresponding .tsv file, if the translators would like to do so.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments on the Portuguese regionalization.

Thank you for letting me know, Marc. I'll get back to you, but I think we may want to use Portuguese translation we submitted for all of them as it should be understood by both dialects.

It looks like we actually will take advantage of the different dialects and offer separate translations for each region/dialect for Portuguese. So we can use the one we submitted for Portuguese (Portuguese) and then the volunteers will work on Portuguese (Brazil) and Portuguese (Portugal) and I'll submit those separately. Let me know if that works. Thank you again.

@salitrov I'm currrently running tests for Hebrew, Portuguese, and German translations on the iPhone Daily Dozen app. @slavick is in the process of creating Android apks for testing. Do any of the translators have iPhones and an interest in reviewing an iPhone FlightTest version?

A note from our translator who is doing the review: I found one error that happens in both Portuguese and English versions, so I'm guessing it might happen in other languages too. It is in line 412, the explanation about the Mild Trendelenburg, before the word "IMPORTANT" in upper case, there is a symbol \n* that I assumed was part of the code, so I copied it in my translation too. However, the app is showing it as part of the text in both languages, so now I removed it from both sheets (Portuguese and Portuguese (Brazil)). But I'm not sure if I should have left it there or not. Was it supposed to be part of the code?

Please let me know what your thoughts are. Thank you.

The \n provides a formatting instruction which creates a new line (carriage return for vertical white space) on the devices. The current processing implemenation from translator .tsv to device .xml and .strings data files expects to have \n in the translated text similar to the base English reference. Left-to-right languages would relocate the text pieces around any \n for the correct presentation.

The * character is part of the displayed text for emphasis. The displayed * emphasis could be changed in the translation, if appropriate.

In the context of what she's saying though, for the Portuguese translations and English, the \n* is showing as text in the app when reviewing. What can be done about that?

@salitrov I did a manual review and update of \n use in the languages. An updated iOS version is going through processing to be available as a TestFlight build. Translators will receive an email notification when the TestFlight is updated.

An tracker was created to improve the handling of ('\n') text paragraphs:

The translation testers will need to update to the latest v3.2.11 (17) TestFlight build.

dozeOtherInfo.section has been fixed locally. There will be another build after some truncating layout issues are resolved.

In the case of the Portuguese (Portugal), Imperial would be an easier fit than Unidades americanas, if Imperial would be OK. Or perhaps, Unidade inglesa or Medida imperial

@salitrov The translators can now review the live App Store page for iOS Daily Dozen with Portuguese:

iPhone screenshots are attached below in a zip file. The iPhone screenshots can be replaced with marketing images when available. Image specification for the two sets: 1242 x 2688 pixels (portrait) and 1242 x 2208 pixels (portrait).

@salitrov The combination of pt-BR and pt-PT provides global Portuguese coverage for the devices. So, pt is now superceded and no longer used for the Daily Dozen device applications.

This is consistent with the existance of the two language academies that regulate the Portuguese standard languages.

As such, commit https://github.com/nutritionfactsorg/daily-dozen-localization/commit/34b722c56c692afc0724b7aac9494e8094c2e1ab removed the pt version. The pt-BR and pt-PT remain as the go forward translations to maintain.

@salitrov The changeset01 tsv files contain some addition lines which need translation to support the addition of Google Firebase Analytics to the application, translator recognition, and the cruciferous servings update.
