Czech: translation #26

Open marc-medley opened 1 year ago

marc-medley commented 1 year ago

This thread has been setup for .tsv (as .tsv.txt or .tsv.zip) Czech translation uploads to be processed for the Android and iOS Daily Dozen applications.

marc-medley commented 1 year ago

Translation received and processed for Czech_cs.app.20221019.intake.tsv.txt and Czech_cs.store.20221019.intake.tsv.txt

marc-medley commented 1 year ago

@salitrov Please post the following translations, when available, to this thread:

salitrov commented 1 year ago

Hi Marc,

I'm attaching these translated updates below. Also, just a note, I included the names of the two Czech translators who contributed to these translations in the credits string. I know it's not the same across all languages at this time, but I didn't feel right asking them to translate it without their names being included there. Hope it doesn't complicate things too much and I will be sure to include all names for all languages in our next big update. Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you.

@salitrov I ended up with some questions for the Czech translation.

Is some cases, if longer words are needed and kept, then I will need to adjust the screen layout.

Please first see the screen capture at the end.

(1) Units Space

jednotky causes clipping for Imperiální jednotky | Metrické jednotky | Přepnout jednotky inside the three position control.

If jednotky is needed in the control selector, then the control will need to be adjusted to support two lines of text.

Is it OK to just use Imperiální | Metrické | Přepnout without jednotky inside the three position control?

Units_A

Units_B

Units_C

(2) Quotes

Should … tlačítka "Jednotky" instead be quoted as … tlačítka „Jednotky“ ?

(3) Jedandvacítka Hubnutí

Consider Jedandvacítka versus Jednadvacítka versus Dvacet jedna versus 21. Based on Google translate, possibly Jedandvacítka is a mispelling Jednadvacítka? Also, Google translates English Twenty one to Dvacet jedna; however it's unclear (to me) what the difference is between Jednadvacítka and Dvacet jedna.

A more important consideration, would be a shorted name for the iPhone bottom navigation...

Navigation

The digit number 21 Hubnutí would fit on the screen better than the text number Jedandvacítka Hubnutí. Would it be OK to switch to 21 Hubnutí?

Note that the English_US version uses 21 Tweaks.

Also consider that the English "Tweak" meaning, in the Daily Dozen context, is to "improve by making fine adjustments". The word Hubnutí Google translates as Losing weight. Perhaps another word is a closer match (for examples, doladění or seřizování or something else)?

marc-medley commented 1 year ago

@salitrov The code has been updated so the word lengths shown below would fit on the smallest screen.

marc-medley commented 1 year ago

@salitrov Here is some more detail to be double checked. The Czech translation uses Jednadvacítka 6 times, Jednadvacítky 2 times, and Jedandvacítka 2 times. Perhaps Jedandvacítka is a spelling error? Also, for on screen spacing, 21 would be preferred in most cases. Thanks.

salitrov commented 1 year ago

Hi Marc, Ludek, our translator, has responded to each point accordingly:

The Czech translation uses Jednadvacítka 6 times, Jednadvacítky 2 times, and Jedandvacítka 2 times. Jedandvacítka was really a spelling error. Repaired. (How is it possible that we both missed this?) "21 hubnutí" is not very nice. It has the meaning like "21 weight loss".

(1) Units Space The one above is the best. I changed it in translation sheets.

(2) Quotes Yes, we in Czech use „“ quotes. I placed them everywhere where quotes are used. We now use in Czech both versions „“ and also "". But it must be used in application in the same way.

(3) Jedandvacítka Hubnutí Yes, I repaired this.

We tried to find another word, but nothing else functions as good as "Jednadvacítka Hubnutí". This term in czech directly says that those 21 points are for weight loss.

"doladění or seřizování" are used in another context. The closest term is "vylepšení" but it implies to be used with object "of what" - "vylepšení Denní Dvanáctky". This also means that Daily Dozen is not very good, it needs to be improved... The word "vychytávky" as is transatede tweeks by google is not very nice word in czech. This means that we look for errors in object and we improve them. I like terms as short as possible, two words maximum...

so 3) will be in two lines. Possibility "21 vylepšení Denní Dvanáctky" would be in 3 lines...

He also noted: Please consider to change .csv to .json in dialog_no_email_apps_message in Czech_cs.app - both in English and czech versions.

I am including the revised .tsv/txt files here. Please let me know if there's anything else I can do. Czech_cs.app - Czech_cs.app.txt Czech_cs.store - Czech_cs.store.txt

Lbouska commented 1 year ago

Hi Marc it is great that I can have contact to you. Can I ask at what date you plat to finish czech version? Several people in our courses do not speak english, so it is important for us. thank you very much for your effort. Ludek Bouska, czech...

marc-medley commented 1 year ago

@salitrov, @Lbouska

Regarding, Jednadvacítka Hubnutí...

We tried to find another word, but nothing else functions as good as "Jednadvacítka Hubnutí". This term in czech directly says that those 21 points are for weight loss.

Please consider the current Daily Dozen app translations below for the short "21 Tweaks" title and navigation button:

Google Translate
to English
English (US) 21 Tweaks 21 Tweaks
Catalan 21 Potenciadors 21 Enhancers
German 21 Optimierungen 21 tweaks
Hebrew 21 כוונונים 21 adjustments
Portuguese (Portugual) 21 Truques 21 Tricks
Russian 21 уловка 21 Tricks
Polish 21 Adaptacji 21 Adaptations
Portuguese (Brazil) 21 Ajustes 21 Settings
Spanish 21 Potenciadores 21 Power-ups

Notice that the additional detail of "for weight loss" is not used for these User Interface elements. Perhaps not including the "weight loss" concept can make possible a shortened 21 ________ translation in Czech?

These particular translations need to fit in a small screen space.

The size of the term Jednadvacítka Hubnutí causes both the information clipping and the navigation buttons text to run together (in other words, have no gap).

Czech__

Below are some screen captures from other translations which do fit on the smallest screen:

marc-medley commented 1 year ago

@Lbouska

Can I ask at what date you plan to finish czech version?

It's more a process than a date: (1) translation is received, (2) beta test application is released with translation, (3) translators & developers review the beta software, (4) repeat steps 1-2-3 if problems are found, then (5) release the software for Apple/Google review teams.

At this time, the need to resolve the 21 Tweaks translation for all screen sizes (see above comments) is the only outstanding known problem to be resolved before generally releasing to the Apple & Google stores.

marc-medley commented 1 year ago

@salitrov @Lbouska

.. also noted: Please consider to change .csv to .json in dialog_no_email_apps_message in Czech_cs.app - both in English and czech versions.

The export (backup) to a .json file format is not currently part of the Daily Dozen software. Also, this level of change is outside the scope of this particular translation Issue itself. And, there currently is no plan to add this feature.

As such, a Feature Request Issue would need to be created specifically to discuss the possibility of adding a .json file export format. Also, a justification for why .json in addition to .csv would be helpful.

The Creation of a Feature Request Issue does not mean the feature will be implemented. Rather, at a minium, creating a Issue documents the request and why it was asked for.

See also the daily-dozen-android and daily-dozen-ios CONTRIBUTING guidelines.

Lbouska commented 1 year ago

thank for you comments. I changed "Jednadvacítka hubnutí" to "21 hubnutí" everywhere in translation. "The export (backup) to a .json file format is not currently part of the Daily Dozen software" - now the export to backup in Daily Dozen app. is in .json file format. I do no want you to make it, it is already done. If you try to make backup, you will receive dailydozen_backup.json file. thanks! Ludek

marc-medley commented 1 year ago

@Lbouska Please see the comments below. Thanks. --Marc

21 Tweaks

There was an earlier comment above that stated:

... "21 hubnutí" is not very nice. It has the meaning like "21 weight loss"

Are you sure that 21 hubnutí should be used if it is "not very nice"? It is unclear in what way the term might be considered "not very nice" in the earlier comment above. Perhaps there is there a "nicer" term does not literally translate to weight loss?

I don't know the Czech language, so I'm just asking again as a way to double check and verify the translation choice.

dailydozen_backup.json

@slavick is looking into your observation about dailydozen_backup.json. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Spreadsheet Processing

I changed "Jednadvacítka hubnutí" to "21 hubnutí" everywhere in translation.

After the translation is updated in the online spreadsheet, then the online spreadsheet is exported as a .tsv and uploaded as a .tsv.txt to a language specific translation thread for processing and tests. (See Documentation/Quickstart.md)

@salitrov has generally been coordinating and uploading the .tsv.txt files which are ready for beta testing and release. This looks like the next step for the 21 Tweaks change, if I understand @Lbouska "changed ... everywhere" comment correctly as being done in the online spreadsheet.

Lbouska commented 1 year ago

Hi Marc If possible, pls. let "21 hubnutí". It is much clearer than all other possibilities. we discussed this this long and all terms that you send to me in other translations have not precise meaning in this context. In fact all 21 items lead to weight loss. Can you accept this? If this is not acceptable, than we will find sg. that is not only "not very nice" but worse. thank you. Ludek

Status update:

1. Backup File Format The Android export format has been changed from .csv to .json. The observation by @Lbouska was correct. The translation text "the .cvs backup file" has been simplified to "the backup file" without specifying the file type for all languages. This was a simple change of dropping .csv in each translation.

2. "21 hubnutí" The "21 hubnutí" update has been processed.

3. Android App The translation update for Android has be submitted to @slavick via daily-dozen-android pull request 212

4. iPhone App Dr. Greger’s Daily Dozen 3.3.3 (9) is ready to test on iOS. Here is a public TestFlight link.

Hi!

Installation is ok. It is very nice to see the application in my language! I have several changes in translation that my friends recommend me

Then there is no "backup" functionality in iPhone version. Would it be possible?

Uploading the updated translation file here. Thanks for reviewing, Ludek! Czech_cs.app - Czech_cs.app.txt

marc-medley commented 1 year ago

@Lbouska Should "About" be O autorovi or O aplikaci?

O autorovi is in the latest Czech_cs.app - Czech_cs.app.txt file. O aplikaci which is in the above comment.

Lbouska commented 1 year ago

it should be "O aplikaci". Sorry, now it is correct also in the Google spreadsheet where I have made the translation. Ludek

marc-medley commented 1 year ago

@Lbouska, @salitrov

"About this application" O aplikaci has now been applied to:

  1. Czech .tsv files in the daily-dozen-localization repository.
  2. Android pull request #213 in daily-dozen-android repository.
  3. iPhone updates in the daily-dozen-iphone repository has already passed Apple review for beta testing. The TestFlight beta (release candidate) which includes this change is available.

"Backup" Functionality

A "backup" functionality in iPhone version is in process and close to being released.

The Slovak translation will be finished during this weekend. The Czech translation functions very good in iPhone! But it is not present in android version of Daily Dozen app. Maybe we need to wait for some servers synchronization. German translation has translation only on main themes, not items - those remain all english. thanks! Ludek

slavick commented 1 year ago

@Lbouska You are added to the translation testers beta distribution list for the Android app. But that was a couple of weeks ago. Do you see an update to a beta version? It has definitely been released long enough that it should show in the Play store. The latest version if you check the about screen is 22-beta-3. I can help if you don't see the beta version.

marc-medley commented 1 year ago

@Lbouska

German translation has translation only on main themes, not items - those remain all english.

What is the information for the above mentioned scenario:

salitrov commented 1 year ago

As far as I can see, the last update made in this main sheet was November 25th at 12:37 am: Czech_cs.app - Czech_cs.app.txt

And this store sheet on November 22nd at 8:55 pm: Czech_cs.store - Czech_cs.store.txt

And the changeset files back on Oct. 23rd.

Lbouska commented 1 year ago

german without items: What is the information for the above mentioned scenario: test device hardware model? Samsung A53, Samsung A51 test device operating system version? Android 13, Andriod 12 Daily Dozen about-this-app version? current from google play 21.3

Lbouska commented 1 year ago

in version 22 - beta 3 is Czech translation all good! only - backup tells: "It is not possible to make backup without permission to write to the memory." Hope those permissions will be asked during installation of the app. Normal people are not able to arrange this.

Lbouska commented 1 year ago

Hi Steven

SK translation is finished and checked. So you can transfer it to the next app. version.

German translation on iPhone is now fully OK!

marc-medley commented 1 year ago

@Lbouska Please also see the questions for you in the following Issue tracker:

A separate Android Issue was created since the concern was separate from the Czech translation topic here. And, the issue as identified appears to be more specific to Android app implementation than the translation itself. Any problems are found in the German translation itself can be reported back to "German: translation #8".

Hi Marc, is sg. needed to be solved in czech android and iphone versions? Do you think than we will be able to use the app in course that starts in January? thank you, Ludek

marc-medley commented 1 year ago

@Lbouska There are not any outstanding czech translations needed for this pending Anroid release. What is meant by ".sg"?

I'm aware that @slavick is currently fixing a couple bugs before releasing a new Android version to production.

Do you think than we will be able to use the app in course that starts in January?

What is the start date for the January course?

slavick commented 1 year ago

I've released a new beta that should fix the permissions issue. The new version is 22-beta-5 and the Play Console shows it's available for testing. If the permission problem is fixed in this version, then the release to production will happen soon after.

Lbouska commented 1 year ago

permission problem is fixed, i found no problem. So you can go further... We will start new course on 2nd January 2023 thanks

Hi, I have again the question whether "backup" functionality will be in iPhone version. Is it possible? thanks, Luděk Bouška

marc-medley commented 1 year ago

@Lbouska Here is the iPhone Daily Dozen v3.4.1 (1) public beta link which includes the data export and import feature. The English_US_en.app.changeset02.tsv spreadsheet provide the English reference which will need to be translated for the export/import feature. You may use and share the list with anyone interested in testing and providing feedback.

Note: the export/import file uses the standard file access as provided by iTunes on Windows and Finder on macOS. The phone will need to be connected to computer to access the backup/restore files.

@Lbouska Thank you for testing the iPhone Daily Dozen export and import functions. Please see below for some answers to your questions:

Export and import functions as described.

Great! Thanks for testing the iPhone Daily Dozen export/import feature.

… to send email with backup data directly to someone? …

The current iPhone Daily Dozen app is using the baseline file transfer mechanism. The use of email, AirDrop or other file transfer (i.e. "share") mechanisms is not yet used by version 3.x of the Daily Dozen iPhone application.

The first priority is that the export/import works correctly. The additional file transfer modes can be added a future time.

Data are in different format, in .csv {on iPhone}, on android it is .json format. I want to import data to my application to analyse data.

Until somewhat recently, the Android backup was in .csv format. That's why you found .csv the spreadsheets for translation. See comment in the Czech translation Issue #26.

The Android backup format had been .csv for a long time. After your comment "now the export to backup in Daily Dozen app. is in .json file format", John @slavick double checked and verified that you were correct.

Some important notes:

  1. Historically, the export-backup and import-restore have been completely different between the Android and iPhone Daily Dozen.
  2. The export-backup and import-restore file formats have been subject to change without notice.

It's apparent that the Daily Dozen app project could benefit from a stable common export-import and backup-restore file formats.

… So I will make another routine. This is not problem. …

Great!

Maybe iphone works not good with javascript routines.

The Swift Programming Language work with json.

There are other differences to also consider. For example, the .json file is about 6 times larger the .csv file.

Also, .csv is directly supported by common spreadsheet applications. So, .csv is a widely useable format for everyone. On the other hand, .json use would need some programming skill.

More comments to follow …

Why is it called export and import? in android version it is Backup and Restore.

Export vs Backup

Ideally, a reliable Backup would (1) not be user modifiable, (2) have a mechanism (such as a checksum) to verify the integrity of the backup, and (3) be compressed.

On the other hand, an Export provides data that can be used in other applications and for other purposes. Export data is user readable and editable.

In your use case, you are using the Android Daily Dozen "Backup" as a data export for another application's use. Technically, the Android Daily Dozen "Backup" is really a "Data Export" which the app uses for the purpose of a backup.

CSV JSON
File Size 1x 6x larger file
Spreadsheet Format
Data Processing Format
Export Format
Backup Format somewhat somewhat

As things currently stand, there is more work to be done for the Android and iPhone Daily Dozen applications to share a common Export/Import file format and a common Backup/Restore file format.

Hopefully, for now, you will find the current iPhone CSV and Android JSON formats useful.

marc-medley commented 1 year ago

@salitrov, @Lbouska The text needed to support the data export and import on the iPhone Daily Dozen app is ready for translation. Thanks.
