Isabella loves about filmmaking and want to be a film director. She thinks interaction and feedback is critical for immersion in VR. She mentioned during her interview:
Although I can watch the video, I still feel like an outsider, because I cannot interact with things in the videos. I know there are so many things going on in a 360 video, but I can only look at one thing. So I don’t see the point of making a 360 video, when your attention can only be attracted to one thing. Which ever direction I’m looking, I’ll be missing everything else in the video.
Identified Issues
Lack of interaction in 360 video. Isabella thinks just watch the 360 video without the ability to interact with it harms the immersion.
Existing Solutions
Having the ability to interact with the scene means it has to be converted into interactive 3D model which is an entirely different process than 360 video. However, basic level of interaction is still doable through proper photogrammetry techniques which involves capture the 360 content directly into 3D wireframe. With 3D surface data, changes in user view angle will be reflected in the real scene via lighting, shadow and prospective. There are some companies working on creating 3D 360 content through photogrammetry techniques.
