Update drupal driver #51

This includes #46 and supersedes #43 Do we need a version 2.x are we breaking anything? If we are going for a 2.x I propose adding strict mode and return types etc that would be bc breaking.

BTW this does not break at least one of our projects where we are heavy users of this library, so I would be ok merging it to 1.x

Tests on Drupal 9 fail because the config changed significantly and we need to update the test site..

tests now pass on Drupal 9 despite the big errors on config import. This can be fixed in a followup.

Thank you for share, we tested the pull request on our drupal 9 project, recently updated and all tests passed.
