I am trying to use NVDA with Chrome all I hear either "Unknown" or "Chrome Legacy Window." I don't have any extention running. I can get Edge and Brave browsers to work with NVDA. I need to test a e-learning course on Chrome. I have turned off my anti-virus and I still have this issue. I don't have an IT department to help me; I am with a small company.

Steps to reproduce: I have opened multiple learning courses and get the same issue.

Actual behavior: I hear either "Unknown" or "Chrome Legacy Window" when I go through a course. I use the tab and arrow buttons

Expected behavior: I should be hearing what is onscreen.

NVDA logs, crash dumps and other attachments: No crashes or anything unusual

System configuration

NVDA installed/portable/running from source:

NVDA version: 2024.1.0.31547

Other questions

Does the issue still occur after restarting your computer? Yes. I have also uninstalled and re-installed NVDA.

Have you tried any other versions of NVDA? If so, please report their behaviors. No

If NVDA add-ons are disabled, is your problem still occurring? I have no idea how to turn this on and I haven't changed any of my NVDA settings before today.

Does the issue still occur after you run the COM Registration Fixing Tool in NVDA's tools menu? I have no idea what this is.

You need to open the NVDA menu e.g. with right click on NVDA icon in the system tray, then go to tools, and run the COM registration fixing tool. This will make sure the DLL files related to communication Object Model will be registered properly on your Windows system. NVDA needs properly registered COM DLL files in order to get information from Accessibility APIs. I am closing this issue as invalid. If you still have this issue after running the COM registration fixing tool, please comment and we can reopen.
