Will NVDA ever stop supporting 32 bit voices? #4597

Reported by mikebayus on 2014-11-04 22:23 I have recently found the NeoSpeech Julie voice for only $19.95, but she is a 32 bit voice. She works well with NVDA 2014.3, and I expect she will work just as well with NVDA 2014.4. But what about when Windows version 9 comes out, or what about versions of NVDA in the future? NeoSpeech is unwilling to price it's voices at an affordable price. I would hate to have to pay 3 times what I payed for the 32 bit version of Julie. She is the best of the best, and I guess if I must, I will pay the price. I didn't know where else to post this question. Thanks. If you want Julie for $19.95 US. Comment 2 by jteh on 2014-11-04 22:35 For future reference, this tracker is more for filing issues, rather than asking questions. The best place to ask such questions is probably the nvda-devel email list.

That said, since I'm replying, I'll answer your question here. NVDA is a 32 bit application, and since 32 bit applications run just fine on 64 bit Windows (including Windows 10), we see no reason to change this, as it makes distribution simpler given that there are still 32 bit systems. Of course, we can't make any guarantees that Microsoft won't change this in the future, but unless that happens, we have no plans to change this. Changes: Added labels: invalid State: closed
