BODCNVS-913: spelling of palaeoclimatic vs paleoclimatic indicators and parameters #4

Open gwemon opened 3 years ago

gwemon commented 3 years ago

We have received a request to "correct" the spelling of "Palaeoclimatic indicators and parameters" in this P02 concept. However this is not a typo but the British english spelling. The problem is that for users this is can be quite a hard one to guess. So I am suggesting to modify the preferred label so that both spellings are represented. Any objections? If we were to do that then the corresponding P03 term would also display the 2 spellings.

I like @dr-shorthair suggestion if the multi-lingual back office can handle it. I have some reservations about establishing the precedent of multiple spellings within the preferred label string as it could become hard to decide which to include and which to exclude. Another suggestion would be to include the spelling alternatives in the description field which would expose them to the vocabulary search tool.

@gwemon As an aside in case you aren't aware for CF Standard Names US spellings must be used.

Hi @roy-lowry yes, I like @dr-shorthair 's suggestion too and, while the back office can support this, I think that we would need to carry out some development work on the various search apps/UIs to enable search on preflabels in multiple languages.
