Menu bars don't appear when running on KDE / i3 Window manager #2687

See title.

@hallamoore I would guess that this is not only specific to KDE, but any desktop environment that doesn't use a central menu bar like Ubuntu's Unity does. Even Gnome Shell doesn't appear to have this either.

In KDE there is a menu bar widget which should do the same thing as Unity's centralized menu bar, however this shows up empty for Nylas.

For other applications, such as Thunderbird, it populates it as normal.

Wow this is super strange. Anyone want to dig in and see if we need to change anything at the Electron level? I wonder if we're not calling https://github.com/electron/electron/blob/master/docs/api/menu.md#menusetapplicationmenumenu, or if this is an issue with Electron itself.

I have this issue too. I'm running awesomewm. is it just me or is the only way to access appearance menu etc through "Manage accounts"? Another issue i noticed is the install new theme option seems to be missing. i worked around by unzipping into the packages folder.

I found that the menu appears when I press the alt key. Maybe I changed something in settings. I'm using awesomewm

I managed to get the application menu to appear in KDE 5.9 by using "Application Menu" titlebar button. But unfortunately clicking on any of these menu items doesn't do anything... The Same situation happens when using global menu widget.

Because of this issue, I'm unable to install custom themes. I don't see a way to access the "Install Theme..." button in another way than from this menu.
