Download Failed - N1 could not save attachment #2917

Open onlinelaser opened 8 years ago

onlinelaser commented 8 years ago

After installing N1 and linking to a single Gmail account I'm hit with the following error within the first couple of minutes of use every single time - it locks up the app completely.

screen shot 2016-10-11 at 8 03 28 am

Download Failed - N1 Could not save attachment, Check that permissions are set correctly and try restarting N1 if the issue persists. connect EMFILE 52.26.120.161:443 - Local (undefined:undefined)

This first appeared after I changed the download attachments preference to "When received".

What operating system are you using?

OSX 10.11.6 El Capitan

What version of N1 are you using?

0.4.56-816edde

Do you have any third-party plugins installed? If so, which ones?

No third party plugins installed - straight out of the box

Is the issue reproducible with a particular attachment, message, signature, etc?

Unknown, it locks up the entire app before I can track it down but the dialog boxes appears multiple times and respawns if closed suggesting it's coming from multiple attachments.

Hi there - it sounds like N1 is running itself out of file descriptors. I'll take a look and see if we can reproduce this. It may be trying to download too many attachments at once.

Thanks, there are certainly a lot of attachments in this mail account! Since the error occurred even with the preference set back to download "When Read" N1 has stopped retrieving any new mail at all

Just a quick update—I've confirmed that N1 is not properly closing file descriptors when it finishes downloading attachments, and that downloading too many attachments produces that error. Will get this fixed for our next release (ETA Wednesday!)

Wow - awesome, thanks for such a quick response. Good attachment handling is the main reason we're looking for desktop client based email, thanks for getting on it so quickly. Any chance of spotlight integration in the near future??

We'd really like to support quicklook! There's an open github issue for it here: #1086. Hopefully we can get it going soon, at least for Mac OS X.

Just a follow up - since this issue started N1 has failed to sync even after resetting the preferences on attachment downloads, I've had a couple of emails make it through but only a fraction of those that I can see in the gmail web client - even the "days remaining in trial mode" message has vanished. Simply deleting and reinstalling doesn't fix it, I'll have to dig out all the plists and properly flush it from the system I suspect.

Has this issue been resolved? I'm having the same problem.

ahsanmoghal commented 7 years ago

Same problem. Nylas Pro 1.5 OSX Sierra. Was working fine. The moment I linked my Gmail account, started getting this error.

myster-t commented 7 years ago

I got this same issue. Would love a solution other than setting attachments to "when read" or "manually" + a reset email cache.

Same error here
