Calendar with Exchange Server #310

Open sameerbagwe opened 9 years ago

sameerbagwe commented 9 years ago

Hi,

Is the Outlook calendar supported yet? I see the Calendar folder but apparently it's empty and not syncing.

thanks

b8e5n commented 8 years ago

not that I want to use it, but I need it. So this is a must have for me! Also the meeting scheduling with the information of availability for the people. Thanks

resilva87 commented 8 years ago

Same here!

almoore commented 8 years ago

I agree the calendar support is a high priority. However, the "Calendar Folder" is an artifact of the Outlook hierarchy. That folder shows up in other mail clients "empty" because it contains the calendar items that are not formatted like emails. So they don't show up. If you create other calendars you might notice a similar thing where folders of those calendar names show up.

+1 Really want to use N1 over thunderbird but I really can't until we get an integrated event calendar. I just checked the trello board and couldn't find anything for integrated calendar there yet.

andreguilhon commented 8 years ago

+1. Also need it!

connorjsmith commented 8 years ago

+1 but i think it's a long way off

+1. I feel this is a must for an exchange account

dominikzogg commented 8 years ago

+1 for calendar support (could be a standalone app, build the same way)

almoore commented 8 years ago

I agree this could be a stand alone app, or a window that is able to open. It should be included in the same package.

Prospects for this client are more then bright, but personally I can't make a switch until there's a working calendar.

grinich commented 8 years ago

Full calendar or just invites? What are you using right now?

Full calendar, with alerts and with the ability to add multiple calendars. Currently I'm using thunderbird with lightning calendar

AdnanHodzic commented 8 years ago

@grinich multiple (full) calendar will alerts. Using Icedove (Debian rebranded Thunderbird).

To get this working I'm using following extensions:

To get full integration with my GNOME desktop and GNOME calendar app, I've also added Exchange/Google account using "Online Accounts" which have support for calendar among other things.

need this! i'm cool with a light calendar which shows me upcoming events from exchange

spetz83 commented 8 years ago

At the very least, N1 should recognize when an ICS has been sent in an email, parse the contents and render them in the body of the email. Right now if I get a meeting invite I have to open thunderbird to see a parsed view of the meeting invite.

spetz83 commented 8 years ago

I guess I should clarify. It already parses the name of the meeting and Date/Time. I would like it to also parse out the proposed attendees, proposed meeting place, whether or not the event has been canceled, etc. I'm attaching a screenshot of a comparison of the same event rendered in Thunderbird vs N1. screenshot from 2016-03-01 14-32-45

So far, Nylas email client is very nice...Yes, an addition of Exchange calendar (the #1 reason Exchange gained popularity ) is needed...

Thank you,

+1 Currently I have partially switched to Nylas N1. With a working calendar feature will make a complete (and irriversible) switch to Nylas :D

DaAwesomeP commented 8 years ago

I currently am stuck between N1 and Thunderbird. I have DavMail (LDAP, CalDAV, CardDAV) and Lightning running alongside N1. I really do like Lightning (it has every feature I could want), but I think that N1 can do a great job as well!

Merging this into #44. We do support Exchange calendars in the sync engine, we just haven't finished the Calendar UI yet :-). Stay tuned!

luispabon commented 8 years ago

Any progress made on calendars? I love N1, but I can't commit myself to it unless it integrates a working calendar.

The majority of folks will not adopt until a calendar is offered.. this being the year 2005 and all..

suoko commented 7 years ago

Nothing yet?

djMax commented 7 years ago

Yeah, doesn't work for me either. It's concerning that calendar is not supported, but it's more concerning that there doesn't seem to be much activity around adding it.

doitonlinemedia commented 7 years ago

Same here would love to have it. For now I use a OWA (Outlook Web Access) just for my calendar. This is really stressfull. I have a one year license but ain't planning to renew it as long there isn't a fully working calendar.

spetz83 commented 7 years ago

@doitonlinemedia So, they "merged" this issue into #44, and then just closed #44. And now they have been silent on it for almost 2 years. So, I think it is pretty safe to say that they have no intention of providing this.

grinich commented 7 years ago

This GitHub issue is not asking for a enhancement or reporting a bug. A calendar app would be an entirely new project and thus doesn't belong in this repo.

dominikzogg commented 7 years ago

@grinich the ability to accept or decline events without seeing them is weird in my point of view

spetz83 commented 7 years ago

@grinich The github page for Nylas N1, at least at the time, encouraged users to suggest new features and vote on features you wanted via the issues section on Github. @bengotow commented on this issue talking about the "We do support Exchange calendars in the sync engine, we just haven't finished the Calendar UI yet :-). Stay tuned!". We have "stayed tuned" for almost 2 years. Then you come back and say that this isn't an enhancement or a bug but a totally new app.... which is fine, but I wish you guys would have been straight up about that 2 years ago vs posting wishy washy comments that made it seem like you guys were actively working on something.

spetz83 commented 7 years ago

In fact... the readme on this repository still states:

"Have an idea for a package or a feature you'd love to see in Nylas Mail? Search for existing GitHub issues and join the conversation!"

So... here we are, joining the conversation.

grinich commented 7 years ago

Sure, I can reopen the issue if you want. Just trying to make it clear why "add an entire calendar app" is not a quick project and not our primary focus right now.
