Nylas Pro: Can't move to trash/delete #3261

Open jstejada opened 7 years ago

jstejada commented 7 years ago

Original bug report on Nylas Pro: #2706

I deleted a large number of messages ( around 600 ) and it showed as deleted from my Nylas Inbox. I went to the Office365 web app and all the messages were still there.

So I deleted them on the web portal, then when I went back to Nylas, they are back in Nylas.

Even after I cleared the Email cache and they are back in Nylas.

Please post there with any additional details if you still see the error on Nylas Pro (N1) v.1.5.0

No additional details, unfortunately. I just want to confirm that this bug is still there in Nylas N1/Pro 1.5.0.

djdiaz commented 7 years ago

I still see this in N1 1.5.0. There has been no change. Very often when I delete an email, it will briefly disappear and then reappear in the inbox. Sometimes it will appear in full, but more usually it will appear but report that it is deleted when I select it (e.g., "One message in this thread is hidden because it was moved to spam or trash.").

Another note on what I am seeing is that even though it pops back in N1, the email has been deleted and exists in the trash if I look on the Gmail web interface. This seems to indicate a sync problem rather than a problem deleting emails.

VanGaylord commented 7 years ago

djdiaz is correct, this is a constant problem in N1 1.5.0. Eventually, if you delete the emails often enough, the stay deleted. I'm not sure what's prompting them to be returned to the inbox display, even though they do seem to be deleted if you open the message (no inbox icon).

@jstejada : I would like to know why Nylas Mail (free one) is constantly updates and corrects a lot of bugs but not the Pro (paid) one ? It's such a shame... We pay for a buggy version of the free bug free one ! Damn...

didjeridou commented 7 years ago

This is really frustrating, I've been recommending Nylas Pro left right and center, and since Nylas Mail, it's now barely usable. It's a shame. I have to look for other options, deleting an email 5 times is a p.i.t.a.

ajeremywillsey commented 7 years ago

I'm having the same issue with N1 v1.5.

Deleted emails still appear on other email clients, e.g. iOS Mail.

Really frustrated that this hasn't been fixed soon. Silly me for buying the Pro upgrade. Will take the loss and switch to another email client as this makes N1 unusable.

Look at this to give your feedback for the N1 pro version : #3294

Duplicate of #3189

OJFord commented 7 years ago

@apsylone @didjeridou That may be an issue in general, but this bug affects the freeloader edition too.

OJFord commented 7 years ago

As mentioned in now-closed #3189, this would seem to be the cause of Spam just flat-out not working at all.

Anything deleted from Spam in Gmail web UI is not synchronised, so local Spam just grows and grows.

jstejada commented 7 years ago

@OJFord what behavior specifically are you seeing in 1.0.30 regarding moving threads to trash?

regarding the Spam folder in 1.0.30, we do sync Spam, the only thing is that it is the last folder to sync, so it might take a while to get to spam in large mailboxes. Is the issue you are seeing with spam is that you can't move threads to the Spam folder? if so, could you open a new issue for that? Or we can reopen #3189 and re-title it correctly?

I want to keep this issue exclusively to the problem of not being able to move to trash in Nylas Pro v1.5.0

Thanks!

@jstejada

That they don't move to trash.

regarding the Spam folder in 1.0.30, we do sync Spam, the only thing is that it is the last folder to sync, so it might take a while to get to spam in large mailboxes.

Doesn't seem to work for me, honestly, I've left it online "syncing mailbox" for days (this is on an existing db, not even a first time sync) - and tried restarting and leaving again too.

Is the issue you are seeing with spam is that you can't move threads to the Spam folder?

I've never tried to do that, with Gmail I seem to get the occasional false positive, but never a false negative. So I assume that works.

Or we can reopen #3189 and re-title it correctly?

:man_shrugging: I opened it as 'trash not working', it was renamed to specify Nylas Pro - I had the issue in both, but I assumed this was just a way of prioritising bugs; that since it also affected Pro it would be dealt with more urgently, but that the fix would apply to both.

I don't understand the Basic/Pro workflow at all, so whatever makes most sense. :slightly_smiling_face:

I want to keep this issue exclusively to the problem of not being able to move to trash in Nylas Pro v1.5.0

This just confuses me more.

Is there any documentation on how to contribute since the Basic/Pro divide? It's clearly not a case of just simple feature-flagging. I closed a couple of PRs that I couldn't test because I'm not paying for Pro, which is fine of course, but I'd still like to be able to contribute to Basic - I just don't understand where or how the line's drawn.

Why does this need to be fixed twice for two apps, the bulk of which is common ground, and which share a repository?

VanGaylord commented 7 years ago

My experience is a little different.

Sometimes, deleting an item doesn't move it to trash, it pops back at the top of my inbox. But, if I hit the trash can again, it generally works. Not sure what's going on there.

The stranger thing is, an email is deleted, and it suddenly shows back up in my inbox. Nothing has changed, no one has replied, and the email has a date from a month ago, but for some reason, it suddenly became "undeleted".
