Sent mail appears as new mail on IMAP accounts #520

Whenever I send an e-mail, it shows up as new/unread afterwards, be it in a conversation (shows up as new in inbox) or as an initial mail (shows up as new in INBOX.Sent). This is a regular IMAP account while using the Windows version of N1, and has been like that since two versions (when I started using N1). In conversations I am often having a hard time marking it as read by reading it, so I have to tick the mail in the inbox list and manually mark it as read.

Hi @enoversum,

Thanks for taking the time to fill a bug report! What is your email provider?

regards,

Karim

It is a webhosting provider from Austria, http://5hosting.com . I believe they do 'normal' IMAP accounts, no special voodoo. I even get the problem that sometimes I archive an e-mail from within a message view and when I escape from the message it is back in the inbox, or pops up there after a few seconds again. Even when I get to archive it right from the e-mail itself, most of the times I then have my own mail as an unread mail in my Sent (= INBOX.Sent) folder.

Would you need any more info from me?

enoversum commented 8 years ago

Addendum: I just tried to archive an e-mail conversation that sat peacefully in my inbox since quite a few days from within that e-mail. This resulted in the conversation bouncing back to the inbox and showing as unread. Opening the conversation, N1 presents me several e-mails of that conversation opened up as if I hadn’t read them already. That gets kind of annoying on long conversations with 20+ e-mails. And even afterwards, after digging through all the already read and written mail and escaping the conversation, it is still being shown as unread.

I can confirm this behavior. The IMAP server on my case is dovecot. If you wish, I can gather more detailed info. My company is an email provider, so I have access to debug info from the server side.

svjames commented 8 years ago

Ditto. Account on 1and1. Sent mail appears in Inbox as unread. Applies to new messages and replies/forwards within conversations. Please just ask for any information you would like me to add.

enoversum commented 8 years ago

This seems to be the same as https://github.com/nylas/N1/issues/591 .

However, do you need any more information? Can we help to fix this in a way? In conclusion with the search not working at all at least on Windows (elsewhere too?) this is actually hindering me from fully using it at work  .

ewiggin commented 8 years ago

I can confirm this bug. Enterprise account with own domain. I don't know who is our imap provider.

digitalextremist commented 8 years ago

I experience this issue too. This is both with Dovecot and Zimbra. I manage the IMAP servers involved.

emfree commented 8 years ago

Should be resolved (by https://github.com/nylas/sync-engine/commit/13b27378b716c022). Thanks all for the reports -- please reopen if this isn't fixed for you.

enoversum commented 8 years ago

@emfree Same question here: How can we see if it is resolved? By just using N1? If so, it is not. I just opened an e-mail I received yesterday, answered and archived it, and it appears as new in my Sent and Archive folder.

emfree commented 8 years ago

Ah that's no good. Thanks for the follow up -- we'll take another look at this.

peterjbraam commented 8 years ago

@emfree This is still around in Version 0.4.40-85cf726 (0.4.40-85cf726) and is kind of an annoying problem. Is there a fix in a beta release I can download and try?

HammyHavoc commented 8 years ago

Still seems to be happening.

ghost commented 8 years ago

I've had this issue (gmail account) for the last several months I've been using N1. It just became unbearable today. Please let me know if I can provide any info to help progress. @emfree can someone be assigned to this issue? It's quite old now.

This is unfortunately still happen, and even more often since recent weeks. I get a 100% hit rate on the following procedure:

  1. e-mail comes in
  2. I open it, close it again (or alternatively mark it as read)
  3. I drag it to a folder (in this case: Junk)
  4. e-mail becomes unread again

Often when I have a conversation open and there is new mail arriving adding to the conversation, even when I read it, the conversation is still marked as unread. I can then open it again and again to no avail.
