Even if there's no way to get the actual GMail tabs, what about just allowing a user to designate some number (maybe 5 or less?) folders that would be rendered as tabs?

It would also be great to have emails that have been marked as done in inbox be marked as read or archived

In #106 it seemed to be indicated that this might be a limitation of the Gmail API but the categories seem to be available now: https://developers.google.com/gmail/api/guides/labels (see CATEGORY_PERSONAL
, etc)
I like Nylas a lot but not being able to cycle through my Gmail categories with the press of 1 button is a dealbreaker for me. I don't want categories treated like just another label. Would this be something that is workable as a plugin I could write? I'm not familiar with Nylas plugins at all and I don't want to get too far in
+1 absolute deal breaker: my inbox is cluttered, but the "personal" tab is just fine. please add this feature!
@alecgorge is absolutely right. With the categories available in the Gmail API this should be a straightforward task!
+1 I agree with everyone on this. My inbox gets cluttered very quickly.
I've been trying to figure this out as I want a Windows native mail client but I also want the Gmail sorting into "promotional" and "social". I've tried both the Nylas help and the Gmail forums. According to Nylas help, https://support.nylas.com/hc/en-us/articles/221044827-Creating-new-folders-or-labels , I could sort mail into folders, but "To add a new folder or label, hover over the account name in the left-hand bar. Click the “+” that appears, then name your new folder or label." This help seems to be out of date, since a "+" doesn't appear when I mouse over my email address, and there's no other account name. On the gmail forum I asked "Hi - I use gmail as my mail service and I'm trying Nylas Mail as my mail app on Windows. (I know this isn't a Google app.) How can I get "promotional" and "social" emails sorted into folders like what happens with Gmail on the web? I assume emails are tagged by the server as "promotional" and "social"? Can they be tagged in other ways?" I got the response "The settings that we see in Gmail is customized. If you wish to have those features in your mail app, I'd suggest you contact your Nylas support team for further assistance." If I figured this out, I was going to customize Nylas to sort into folders, but no dice.
@GM-Polyakov Sent me an email asking me why I stopped using Nylas mail, well, here are some other guys with the same request.
so this is a +1 for the feature-request
Hello ! I was talking with the Nylas support about this. They told me to create a new issue about this as a request for a new plug in. They are not looking to make it by themselves.
We don't do the Primary / Social / Promotions / Updates / Forums thing and aren't planning to add it. Sorry!
Would be great to have the classification like Gmail does. I think they attach labels like Social, Promotion to each mail. Not exactly sure how it can be implemented but would be wonderful to see something like that.
