Allow 3 movement inside friendly territory with investments #101

Proposal: Rather than allowing 2 moves inside friendly territory with investments, allow 3.

Reasons:

What do you think?

Note that you can already do something like this by placing a move token every 2 regions.

I am against. Troops could go almost across the continent in 1 turn. I would be able to take back Russia from my (huge) army in the Mediterranean in our last game. You could effectively hold your empire from 1 army in a strategic location.

That is not entirely true. If you are in Turkey, you can already get to Russia in 1 move. If you are in the sea, you can move at most 1 region.

I think the 1 move inside friendly territory is already a bit too much :smile: 2 moves allows you to control your region too efficiently, where armies can rush from one side to the other at no cost. I would keep it the way it is now, where you lose a token if you want to travel far.

Discussed in person, and decided to try this out first

If we would try it in person, I would suggest that you can move infinetely through friendly areas with infrastructure. For simplicity sake.

I think it makes nearly no difference in practice? How often would you even be usefully able to go through 3 countries with infrastructure? I did Schotland->Paris last game, with 2 moves that could be Ireland->Paris. With infinity Ireland->Switzerland?

It makes nothing possible which is not possible now, you just need to use less move tokens for that.

You are forgetting about adjacent friendly players who could do crazy combo's

Major chance suggestion: Roads require full investment in both lands. This would reduce the crazy combo, but it would make it a little bit less clear on the map of where there currently are roads. And while thinking about it for a while, I think this change would have other interesting advantages as well.

I'm curious what those "other interesting advantages" could be. You could maybe explain it tomorrow?

I'm retracting this proposal. I don't think extra movement will improve the game as it makes it even harder to reason about all movement possibilities.
