Inset maps are difficult to tell apart.

Perhaps there should be a mechanism for labeling insets as they are created? In the example above three different crops / rectifications are occurring across the original map and the two insets. It would be helpful if each could be labeled with the village it corresponds with.

As an immediate improvement exposure of the inset # in the UI would be helpful as a meaning of distinguishing insets from one another?

In the longer term it might be helpful if the relationship between a map and its insets was clearer.

Since insets enable areas within a map to be cropped/rectified independently of the original map it would be helpful if there was a way to outline which areas below to the primary map and which belong to the insets. Perhaps a new "insets" tab could be created to facilitate this. The outlines could be used to depict which area is being focused on in the inset_maps thumbnails - http://maps.nypl.org/warper/maps/26776/inset_maps

When viewing an inset the "inset outline" could be displayed in the preview / rectify / crop tabs to depict the area of focus of a given inset. The inset outline could also serve as the default crop outline for a given inset when first created though it would be useful if the outline could be revised from within the inset itself since the initial inset outline is likely to be rough.
