libayatana-appindicator and libayatana-indicator are the only appindicators implementation that are still maintained and developped, while libappindicator are unmaintained for ages.
OpenSUSE and Debian already migrated: https://wiki.debian.org/Ayatana/IndicatorsTransition
The support was added to electron-22.0.0, that includes https://github.com/electron/electron/pull/36333
