Make it more dynamic by adding some examples under each (where possible) content.

Using icons is not needed. Now for (almost) every menu item a related content needs to be shown. To do this the following module will help a lot> https://www.drupal.org/project/menu_views

It makes possible to use views as menu items. This way the homepage will be much more content rich.
