We had an ePub made for us and I'm editing it to change the photos and text,
but it's suddenly massive. The original ePub was around 26 MB. I opened it in
Sigil, deleted the old photos and replaced them all, then changed 20 pages, but
now it's 86 MB. The photos are all the same DPI as the old ones (150 DPI) and
all are less than the recommended 300Kb, and total less than 15MB. Why is it so
big?

Use Tools->Reports to see your files and sizes. Sigil does not automatically
increase the size of your files - it will be the files you added/modified in
your epub that increased the size.
