unused fields, version definitions in child poms deleted
list parameters updated
formatting was a automatically applied

To me this looks great and is ready to merge. But some of the batch experts should have a look as the diff is huge and hard to read in this area (see esp. 2nd commit). @maihacke any change for your feedback?
