Kiun and I will be working with the writings of Dostoevsky. Originally, I had proposed to quantify the schism between the two manifestations of Golyadkin in The Double, drawing upon writings about the uncanny and doubles, as well as using Mikhail Bakhtin's Problems of Dostoevsky's Poetics as support for defining Golyadkin's self-consciousness. However, the project has shifted, and we will decide on a separate research question still relating to Dostoevsky, but not necessarily to The Double, especially because the Faust project is very similar in research question and approach. In sum, we are going to formulate another Dostoevsky-related project in which we both have interest, as well as one that is less related to other projects in the course.
