The purpose of Orbis is to reconstruct the finances and time spent on different times of travel in the ancient Roman world. The site does a nice job of explaining to visitors its purpose by using an extensive, interactive pop-up window that appears as soon as one enters the site. Within this window, every aspect and detail behind the research is accounted for and easy to access. Once visitors exit the window, they are confronted with an interactive map that allows them to play with and explore the research data themselves. The site is incredibly clear and user-friendly. There is even a tutorial in case any visitor should somehow get lost. There is also an option to re-open the "About" pop-up window that was offered when people first enter the site. The site is visually appealing and is a great tool for research. It accomplishes its goal of extensively comparing different travel routes in Ancient Rome in a clear and aesthetically pleasing way.
