I think that this site provides a really great example of how technology like mapping and XML can enhance humanities research. I appreciate having an example of the presentation of historical research, as my group has been hoping to incorporate historical background and analysis into our site. There is a huge amount of content on this site represented from a visually effective balance of text, mapping, and charts. This shows that it is possible to incorporate a lot of information, as long as the site is visually appealing and easy to navigate. By using a popup window, the creators of this site made information simple to find, and clearly represent the extensive research that went into the project. The use of GIS is an incredibly effective visual tool for the representation of their research in data. It might be useful for us to spend some time figuring out if there is a tool that could be just as effective for our purposes. The actual searchable data is very impressive because of the detail they have thought of, and the number of options they present. This must be an incredibly valuable tool for scholars in the field because it is both thorough and accessible.
