A work in progress, I'll thoroughly test these fixes first, but wanted to throw them out there for discussion.

I'd love to finish this up in one way or the other, but would need some feedback/example configuration for slightly more exotic Graphite configurations.

Now that @eric's refactor has been merged, should we :fire: this one? Major :heart: for putting this together but I think we can all agree that the new refactor is :zap:.
