NTR: whole metagenome sequencing assay #1056

Hello, I'd like to request a new term analogous to the existing 'whole genome sequencing assay' term.

label: whole metagenome sequencing assay synonym: WMS definition: A DNA sequencing assay that intends to provide information on the DNA sequence of genomes from a mixture of different genomes (a metagenome) from different species and strains living together in a microbial community. parent term: 'DNA sequencing assay' OBI:00000626 example of usage: Whole metagenome sequencing has been used to explore the composition and metabolic capability of communities of microbes found in the environment (e.g. in soil, water, etc.) and in humans and other species (e.g. in the gut, oral cavity, etc.).

I'm not sure what to put for definition source, I made it up based on following the pattern of sibling terms and my knowledge of what a metagenome is.

Thanks very much, Michelle Giglio

This looks good overall, but maybe a more barebone definition like definition: A DNA sequencing assay that intends to provide information on the DNA sequences of multiple genomes (a metagenome) from different organisms present in the same input sample.

This definition avoids 'microbial community' and 'living together', which might not be applicable for all cases (e.g. I don't think people would refer to a metagenome sequencing of assays of an amputated arm of a sepsis patient to those microbes as 'living together' in the patient (who might live for much longer)?

A more barebones def is fine with me. Sounds good, thanks.

This term is now in OBI.
