Platform needs resolved. We need to come up with a good English definition and sensible logical definition that enables a distinction to be made.

Here are proposed changes: definition: A material entity that is the set of measurement devices, related material entities, and software needed to perform an assay.

definition_source: OBI.

example of usage: The Affymetrix microarray platform consists of scanners, microarrays, hybridization chambers, image acquisition software, and other related items manufactured by the Affymetrix companny for microarray assays.

conditions: change has_part device to has_part measurement device

current restrictions are has function some function, has part bearer of some concretization of software, in manufactured by some organization, is specified output of some material processing. So pretty well defined. If add has part measurement device that should do it.

I'm now leaning to getting rid of it as it is no longer clear to me what is the use case for platform. Related use cases are "select studies using microarray technology" and "select studies using Affymetrix arrays" but I think these can be done without the need for a platform

I would agree that retiring 'platform' would be nice. Currently there are 7 non-obsolete uses of 'platform' in the file. microarray and LCMS as parents, and several specific NMR 'platforms' that are subclasses of instruments. The latter are minimally misplaced, and should probably not be classes in the first place.

Chris S. suggests deprecate this. needs an email for deprecation, needs to email out. AI for CS.

current instrument subclasses as is-a are in fact parts of some chromatography parent class - needs to be changed to part of once we know what the parent thing is which has_part
