Absolutely agree. There is the general discussion if we should get rid of the ''platforms' in general, which were meant to include instruments/reagents/software, but we never had a good definition. I believe Chris S. was going to take a stab at that. In the meantime, we should remove this incorrect definition.

I'm now leaning to getting rid of it as it is no longer clear to me what is the use case for platform. Related use cases are "select studies using microarray technology" and "select studies using Affymetrix arrays" but I think these can be done without the need for a platform.

Doesn't seem right. Any device that includes a uarray would be a uarray platform. Consider using genus-differentia definitions. E.g. platform and has_part some microarray. This would mirror the text definitions.
