This term can be used to bridge OBI/IAO and ECO.
We can generate equivalent class for evidence (http://purl.obolibrary.org/obo/ECO_0000000) as : 'information content entity' and ('has role' some 'evidence role')

Contradiction with BFO: 'has role' relation's domain is not 'generically dependent continuant'. But an information content entity is a 'generically dependent continuant'.

Discussed on 4/27/2015 OBI's call. The 'generically dependent continuant' can not bear any roles, which is firm and should not be violated in BFO. Since evidence can be both material and information, We have to find another solution to bridge the evidence with assay. It is an important part for representing scientific research, and need more discussion, debates and brain storming. We have to ask the ECO developer Marcus to get engaged.

In the BCO, we want to describe both material entities (ie specimens) and information content entities (ie photos or notes) as evidence of the occurrence of some organism at a place and time (as part of mapping Darwin Core data). In our case, the "evidence role" is a way of linking either matter of information to an assertion about the presence of an organism (or the distribution of organisms more generally).
We also talk about evidence used for taxonomic identification. In this case, specimens are the most common type of evidence.

March 13, 2016 call. Will be discussed at OBI-ECO workshop in May.

It was proposed by BCO as well: http://purl.obolibrary.org/obo/bco_0000000 However, in BCO's use case, " A museum specimen that serves as evidence for a taxonomic identification process bears an evidence role." A 'museum specimen' is not an information content entity here. We will need a solution for that.
