These terms are needed for OBIB to aid investigators searching for specimens that have been stained by a particular method (H&E or immunohistochemistry). The proposed pattern is to define a staining process in order to define the desired specimens as the output of that process.
H&E slide staining: a staining process using hematoxylin and eosin. The staining is applied to fixed specimens on slides to observe the whole structure and morphology of cells in a tissue; nuclei are stained dark blue/purple while cytoplasm is stained pink.

Specified input: fixed tissue slide specimen
Specified output: H&E stained fixed tissue slide specimen.
H&E stained fixed tissue slide specimen: A fixed tissue slide specimen that is the output of H&E slide staining.
IHC slide staining: a staining process using labeled antibodies, i.e. the analytical part of immunohistochemistry. The staining is applied to fixed specimens on slides to identify biomarkers in tissues.
