Discussed at DENRIE call June 3, 2008. Will review further.

Hi, Could we have a definition a bit more explicit for those?
Proposal: - survival curve A survival curve is a report graph which is a graphical representation of data where the percentage of survival is plotted as a function of time. definition source: adapted from http://www.graphpad.com/www/book/survive.htm
- Venn diagram: A Venn diagram is a report graph showing all hypothetically possible logical relations between a finite collection of sets definition source: adapted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venn\_diagram
- graph (ideas for a better less ambiguous name? maybe having function graph as well to help?) A graph is report graph which is a graphical representation of a collection of points and lines connecting some (possibly empty) subset of them. The points of a graph are most commonly known as graph vertices, but may also be called "nodes" or simply "points." Similarly, the lines connecting the vertices of a graph are most commonly known as graph edges, but may also be called "arcs" or "lines." definition source: adapted from http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Graph.html
I already submitted heatmap (http://code.google.com/p/information-artifact-ontology/issues/detail?id=2) and histogram to IAO (http://code.google.com/p/information-artifact-ontology/issues/detail?id=1) We could probably submit the other as well there if you think the above proposed definitions are satisfactory (tracker available at http://code.google.com/p/information-artifact-ontology/issues/list)
Thanks, Melanie

OK except for graph. "A graph is report graph which is a graphical representation .." If we have report graph, then I don't think we need graph. Chris

heatmap: IAO_0000180 survival curve: IAO_0000182 Venn diagram: IAO_0000181
need to check on grpah (as data structure)

These have determined to be types of report elements. Will generate definitions and run by DT branch.

All now in the OBI or IAO file - need some of the definitions to be improved slightly, but usable for now. (adding during dev call 27/7)

heatmap: A graph which represents data where the values taken by a variable in a two-dimensional map are represented as colors. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat\_map
survival curve: A graph which plots percent survival as a function of time. http://www.graphpad.com/www/book/survive.htm
Venn diagram: just change report graph to graph.
graph of vertices: change curation status to ready for release. A graph which is a collection of points and lines connecting some (possibly empty) subset of them. The points of a graph are most commonly known as graph vertices, but may also be called "nodes" or simply "points." Similarly, the lines connecting the vertices of a graph are most commonly known as graph edges, but may also be called "arcs" or "lines." http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Graph.html

Terms identified from a recent use case evaluation from DT branch. We found we needed the following:
-heatmap http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat\_map -survival curve http://www.graphpad.com/www/book/survive.htm -venn diagram http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venn\_diagram -graph (in the sense of V=vertices, E=edges, not in the sense of graph of a function.) See second definition here http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Graph.html
Thanks!
James
