Hypermyelination #280

Closed obophenotype-user closed 9 years ago

obophenotype-user commented 10 years ago

Hello,

Can the term "hypermyelination" be added to this branch on the ontology [HP:0011400] Abnormal CNS myelination where the corresponding term "hypomyelination" is found?

Proposed definition: Increased amount of myelin in the nervous system usually resulting in a thicker myelin sheath

Thank you, Heather Trang, PhenoTips team member

Could you specify whether you mean CNS or peripheral or both? I have not seen any descriptions of CNS hypermyelination yet, and for peripheral, there does not seem to be diffuse hypermyelination, but rather focal areas of hypermyelination that have been called tomacula:

Please let me know the use case.

Hi Peter,

This term request came from the NIH UDP group - I will connect with them regarding your questions and let you know.

Sincerely, Heather

Hi Peter,

I asked the NIH team about their use of the term hypermyelination. According to their response, they make note of when hypermyelination is observed on CNS MRI imaging. This is noted to be global in some patients and focal in others. Is this sufficient clarification for terms to be created?

Thank you, Heather
