MA:0000462 ! radio-ulnar joint #70

[Term] id: MA:0000462 name: radio-ulnar joint namespace: adult_mouse_anatomy.gxd is_a: MA:0000460 ! wrist joint

is this the same as the FMA class here:

.......is_a FMA:38863 ! Radio-ulnar joint *** ...........is_a FMA:35290 ! Distal radio-ulnar joint ...........is_a FMA:38860 ! Proximal radio-ulnar joint

if so then only the distal subclass could be considered a wrist joint (and maybe that is iffy?). The FMA is consistent with the version of Gray's used in Wikipedia it seems.

There are two subclasses of wrist joint in MA:

.......is_a MA:0000460 ! wrist joint ........is_a MA:0000461 ! radio-carpal joint ........is_a MA:0000462 ! radio-ulnar joint

I'm not aware of any AOs that name a distinct ulno-carpal joint, although some online sources mention it (e.g. http://chionline.com/anatomy/anat4.html)

The FMA seems to treat wrist joint as a mereological sum of ligaments connecting radius-carpus and ula-carpus; e.g

.......is_a FMA:7183 ! Upper limb ........regional_part_of FMA:24878 ! Free upper limb .........regional_part_of FMA:24922 ! Wrist ..........constitutional_part_of FMA:35291 ! Wrist joint ...........constitutional_part_of FMA:40036 ! Articular capsule of wrist joint ............constitutional_part_of FMA:40001 ! Dorsal radiocarpal ligament ............constitutional_part_of FMA:40002 ! Palmar radiocarpal ligament ............constitutional_part_of FMA:40003 ! Dorsal ulnocarpal ligament ............constitutional_part_of FMA:40004 ! Palmar ulnocarpal ligament

I have yet to find any report including a mention of a proximal radio-ulnar articulation in the mouse, nor any mention of a radio-ulnar joint that didn't appear to refer to one in the wrist region. However, I have modified the name for MA:0000462 to "distal radio-ulnar joint."

It may help to clarify matters to consistently use "joint of X" (e.g. "joint of wrist") rather than "X joint". This approach will be seriously considered.
