Synonyms
fascial sheath of the eyeball
fascia bulbi
Definition (free text, please give PubMed ID)
Depends on the correct superclass, but the following may be useful:
"A thin membrane which envelops the eyeball from the optic nerve to the corneal limbus, separating it from the orbital fat and forming a socket in which it moves." https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tenon_capsule&oldid=939817001
"Tenons capsule is composed of an anterior thick fibrous tissue comprising the orbital smooth muscle network and the posterior thin fibrous capsule of the orbital fat." PMID:22172019
Term is in FMA as FMA:58734 'Fascial sheath of eyeball', but if you import it, note that one of the FMA synonyms has a typo ("Vaginal bulbi" should read "vagina bulbi")
Parent term (use https://www.ebi.ac.uk/ols/ontologies/uberon)
Subclass of UBERON:0008982 fascia?? (Note, there's a typo in the def of 'fascia')
Part of UBERON:0000019 camera-type eye
Also, based on this bit in the Wikipedia entry "Charles Barrett Lockwood described a thickening of the lower part of the Tenon capsule, which he named the suspensory ligament of the eye. It is slung like a hammock below the eyeball, being expanded in the center, and narrow at its extremities which are attached to the zygomatic and lacrimal bones respectively", perhaps the new term should be linked to UBERON:0006762 'suspensory ligament of lens'? I'm not sure though.
Preferred term label: Tenon capsule
