Fine motor system A motor system that coordinates muscles, bones, and nerves to produce small, exact movements of the hands and fingers. An example of fine motor control is picking up a small item with the index finger (pointer finger or forefinger) and thumb.
Gross motor system A motor system that coordinates muscles, bones, and nerves to produce large, gross movements of large body parts. An example of gross motor control is walking and running.
