Mandibular-hyoid median cartilage is a spherical mass of cartilage located between the mandibular symphysis and ventral hyoid arch. Mandibular-hyoid median cartilage is unpaired. Part_Of: splanchnocranium Synonyms: : “hyomandibular cartilage” sensu Schaefer (1990) Is_A: cartilage

Comment: Schaefer, S. 1990. Anatomy and relationships of the scoloplacid catfishes. Proc. Acad. Nat. Sci. Phil. 142: 167-210. described this structure in certain catfishes and applied the name hyomandibular cartilage.
To avoid possible confusion of this structure with the hyomandibular cartilage (or bone) of the suspensorium, the term Mandibular-hyoid median cartilage is suggested here
