DataBricks is a real similar environment; given how different different Jupyter frontends are from each other, it could make sense to use the same library for DataBricks.
A customer wrote in to support to ask for help with embedding, and sent in their code; they had implemented exactly the interface of this library, but with a cells to ignore list instead of cells to include. Of course they didn't have the iframe, introducing the same security issues as in Jupyter.
