Add XGP-11 as per recent ITS updates.

  1. Ensure PDP-10 emulator is new enough.
  2. New disk images needed to pick up ITS configuration updates. (Or add a few lines to CONFIG and reassemble ITS.)
  3. Remove old ten11 configuration from SIMH and add this: at -u ten11 line=0,10011 at -u ten11 line=1,10021
  4. Start XGP-11 like this: tools/tv11/xgp11 -s1 -p 10021 localhost
  5. Read https://github.com/larsbrinkhoff/its-manual/wiki/Printing#the-xgp-printer
  6. ???
  7. Profit!

Lars,

New disk images needed to pick up ITS configuration updates. (Or add a few lines to CONFIG and reassemble ITS.)

Shall I 'git pull' from the ITS repository and rebuild the disk iamges, or do you have them ready perhaps?

Read https://github.com/larsbrinkhoff/its-manual/wiki/Printing#the-xgp-printer

Nice! Do you propose we add it by default to the ITS boot script, like I did for the Knight TV? So it is always running? Not sure if it is a major extra load on the CPU, we could also make it an option. (My idea is to enable by default, and tell people that if they run on a Pi 3, they should disable it in the boot script)

Profit!

Why use a primitive PC with Adobe PageMaker when you can do your publishing on a proper mainframe for a fraction of the cost? I see a new market.

Kind regards,

Oscar.

The latest images should always be available here: http://hactrn.kostersitz.com/

I'm not sure about starting by default. The XGP-11 is much easier to start/stop after ITS has booted, so maybe not. Also, the user must grab some terminal and log in there as the XGP user. That is to load the XGP-11 code, and start the XGPSPL spooler job.

Lars,

OK. So I make the XGP part of my 'pdp' command script, start/stop it.

I didn't realise Mike Kostersitz was an ITS insider! Glad that I sent him a kit, I missed that point.

The Raspberry Pi people will do an article about the PiDP-10 and ITS, they'll write it this weekend. I just need some high-res Glamour shots of the PiDP-10. If you have some pictures that you think are good for publication, I'd be happy to get them. Not only am I not much of a photographer, but my boat and $170 mobile phone are not the very best setup for Glamour Shots. But I'll try!

Kind regards,

Oscar.

Most of my house is overrun with Legos, so it's hard to find a good glamorous spot. I'm glad you have found use for my exploded view. I kind of like my latest photo on Twitter, with switches, keys, and knobs to rival an IBM; get that if you like.

Will do!

Working on you presentation outline, was disrupted for a bit.
