This is (sort of) fixed in 25.0.5 (release pending).

Thank you for your reply. I'm also facing the same issue. Is there some place that we can download a preview version of 25.0.5? Really thank you!
Facing the same issue. Is there any update on this?
@Kulcanhez @mitjans @Overbryd Try 25.0.6 that was released today. It solved my problem (which had similar segfault as yours).
Just tried. Now it displays a message:
Failed to create aac streaming encoder (simple output)
I also faced the crashes of OBS Studio 24.0.6, but on macOS 10.13.6. The 25.0.6 release does not crash, but gives me the "Failed to create aaa streaming encoder (simple output)" error message right after startup:
After clicking "OK", the applications quits.
I found a workaround while we wait. If you download the .dmg image and open OBS from there it does work (do NOT move it to Applications folder).
Indeed, it is working, when it is started from within the mounted DMG image, but not when moved to a regular folder of the file system. (I tried moving and starting it from a folder in my home directory (~/Temp
). I just tried with an older release package (23.2.1) and that works well when installed to /Applications/
.
All OBS Studio 24.* releases for macOS crash on my macOS 10.13.6 system. Release 23.2.1 is working.
@maehne Would you be able to attach a current OBS log from such a failed launch to a comment?
Made a quick case sensitive DMG file, managed to replicate it. I'll take a look tonight.
Should be fixed in this build, if not let me know https://github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/releases/tag/25.0.7
Thanks a lot for finding the root cause for the issue! Indeed, my macOS installation is on a case-sensitive file system, as I do software development and don't want to introduce subtle bugs in my code. ;-) I can confirm that the issue is fixed. I can now use the latest version of OBS Studio including the OBS-NDI plug-in and haven't notice anymore crashes during my tests. Also, performance of the wireless transmission via NDI seems to have improved with the more recent NDI runtime + OBS Studio. Thanks for all the effort to the OBS Studio developers! It is really a nice, easy-to-use, and powerful software. Keep up the good work!
For this specific case, thank @DDRBoxman - he more or less intuited the root cause just from hearing about the issue.
Platform
Operating system and version: macOS Catalina 10.15.4 OBS Studio version: 24.0.6
Expected Behavior
I start OBS and expect it to keep running.
Current Behavior
I start OBS, and after some time (no specific action) it crashes. It crashes when I am streaming. It crashes when I do nothing and have it running in the background without any interaction. The only element on my Scene is a Display Capture.
