(Experimenting with comments...) Add a timescale option to these to separate standing vs. transient eddies in the sub-grid component. How much EKE is transient (timescales less than 1 year) vs standing (greater than 1 year). MKE should be diagnosed similarly or not?

MKE as a function of filter scale (done)
EKE as a function of filter scale (done)
ratio of EKE/MKE (or sub-grid/resolved) (done)
all can be recomputed for various filter types (sharp, gaussian, boxcar)
filter can also vary with local delta longitude or local deformation scale (although not energy preserving at this point I think)
