Consider switching to Pleroma #16

Pleroma is more lightweight, has more features, has a configurable frontend (you can pick one of many different UI styles and switch between them at will, one of them being the Mastodon frontend itself), etc, etc.

I don't necessarily think we should switch, just opening an issue so the idea is out there.

Oh yeah, it also has built in SAML support, so we won't need to maintain patches or anything for that.
